WhatsWhat Media (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the online multifunctional media commerce platform located at https://whatswhat.ng. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website, mobile application, use our peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace, read our magazine-style blog, interact with our creative promotional tools, access our newsletters and any other services under the WhatsWhat Media platform — which includes but is not limited to media content publishing, influencer, marketing and advertising services.

During our initial launch, we collect information to provide, test, and improve our services.

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, username, and password created during registration.
  • Profile & Listing Data: Photos, descriptions, pricing, and city locations of items you list for sale on our P2P marketplace.
  • Communication Data: Text messages and media exchanged with other users through our in-app messaging system.
  • Creative Submissions: Content, media links, and text submitted to our creative promotional tools.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Log and Usage Data: IP addresses, browser types, operating systems, referring URLs, device information, and pages viewed on our blog or marketplace.
  • Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We use cookies, web beacons, and persistent identifiers to keep you logged in, analyze site traffic patterns, and remember your display preferences.

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to track and report traffic on our magazine-style blog (Infotainment), marketplace (Free Market) and creative ecosystem (Hype Link).

We process your data to fulfill our services and ensure platform security, specifically to:

  • Create, manage, and maintain your user account.
  • Display your listings accurately to potential buyers in the marketplace using your manually selected city.
  • Facilitate secure P2P communication via our in-app messaging tool.
  • Deliver tailored infotainment content and promotional spots for creatives.
  • Monitor, test, and troubleshoot platform bugs during our development phase.
  • Prevent fraudulent listings, scam behavior, or terms-of-service violations.

4. Location Data Handling

To protect user privacy, WhatsWhat.ng does not collect background GPS coordinates or use automated location tracking services.

  • Manual Input: Users must select their city or region manually when creating marketplace listings, creative promotions or browsing for items.
  • Visibility: Only the city you manually select will be displayed on your public listings to help local buyers and clients connect with you.

5. How Your Information is Shared

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information in the following specific scenarios:

  • Public Marketplace Listings: Your username, manually selected city (e.g., Lagos, Nigeria), and listed items are visible to all visitors. Your exact email and phone number remains hidden unless you enable the display option or explicitly write it in your listing description or share it in private chats.
  • Peer-to-Peer Transactions: Chat history and relevant listing details are shared between the buyer and seller interacting through our in-app messenger.
  • Creative Promotions: Chat history and relevant listing details are shared between the promoter and inquirer interacting through our in-app messenger.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: We share data with trusted technical vendors who host our servers, manage infrastructure, or provide analytics tools (like Google LLC) under strict confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose data if required by Nigerian law enforcement, regulatory bodies, or court orders.

6. Future Monetization and Financial Data Notice

WhatsWhat.ng is currently a free-listing platform and does not collect, store, or process credit card numbers or banking credentials.

  • Future Integration: As we transition out of our beta phase, we plan to integrate a secure paywall for sales transactions, digital downloads, premium listing boosts, and recurring subscriptions.
  • Payment Gateways: Once active, all financial transactions will be handled directly by licensed, PCI-DSS-compliant Nigerian payment gateways (such as Paystack or Flutterwave). WhatsWhat.ng will never store your raw payment card data on our servers. This policy will be updated immediately upon the deployment of those features.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures, including SSL encryption and restricted server access, to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, please remember that no digital transmission or P2P platform is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential.
